Axel Almet

I am an NSF-Simons Postdoctoral Scholar at the Department of Mathematics of the University of California, Irvine. I am funded through the NSF-Simons Center For Multiscale Cell Fate Research (CMCF) and work with Professor Qing Nie.

Previously, I was part of the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology (WCMB) at the University of Oxford, where I completed a DPhil (PhD) in Mathematics with Professors Helen Byrne, Philip Maini, and Derek Moulton.

I am always interested in collaborating with those that have similar research interests or on problems where my skills may be of use. I have particular expertise with cell-based modelling of biological tissue and continuum mechanics models of slender, filamentary structures. Please feel free to reach out!

I am also very keen to contribute towards a fairer and more diverse workplace in academia and pay forward the kindness I have been very fortunate to receive during my career. If you are a student or early-career researcher and would like any sort of advice about Mathematical Biology at UCI or about previous institutions at which I have been (Melbourne, Oxford), please do drop me a line. I am more than happy to share my experience on advice on applications and navigating academia.
