AWIS at UCI wishes you a Happy 2022!!!

We are interested in hearing back from you as we prepare new events.
Our goal is to organize events that are helpful for you beyond what your current programs offer. Specifically, we seek to foster professional development and provide guidance via a variety of programs including informal panels, workshops, webinars etc. We also want to provide opportunities for leadership, mentorship (both serving as a mentor and receiving mentorship), and networking through social events.

To organize the best programs we can, we’d like to hear from you!

Please tell us in this FORM what you’d like to see from AWIS and we’ll try to make it happen!

Wrapping up AWIS Application Assistance Program

The year is winding down— application deadlines for many graduate schools have passed or are coming up quickly and our AAA program for the year has just come to a close.

We’d like to thank our AAA mentors for their help and expertise in assisting mentees in the graduate school application process. Our mentors guided their mentees by giving feedback on personal statements, statements of purpose, as well as answering their mentees’ questions and providing informal mentorship along the way.

Fingers crossed for all of the prospective mentees who are hoping to begin their graduate studies! If you are interested in learning more about the AAA program or would like to participate as a mentee or mentor next year, please reach out to us at awis@uci.edu.

Post-Workshop #5

Workshop 5 was our final workshop for the Profession Development Series. The workshop session was interactive and we learned a lot of useful information concerning teaching career exploration.

Special thanks to Dr. Natascha Buswell for leading the discussion!

Post-Workshop #4

Workshop #4, What’s a PostDoc?, in collaboration with the PostDoc Association went well! The panel was really helpful, and the questions from the attendees also helped the discussion go along smoothly. Special thanks to all the PostDoc panelists for sharing their experience!

A screenshot at the end of workshop #4 with 3 members from the PostDoc Association and 3 AWIS board members. Unfornately all attendees left before we could get their picture. Thanks to all who joined!

Post-Workshop #3

Workshop #3 focused on common practices for interviews for in person, over zoom, and asynchronous meetings. Lauren’s talk on tricks to ace any interview was very insightful!

Although we had some mishaps for Workshop #3, Interview Tips and Tricks, we promise it will not happen again. Special thanks to Lauren Lyon for sharing her tips! We’re glad for the attendees who were able to make it! Hopefully, we see some of you again in our next workshop!

Thanks to those who stayed for the workshop photo!!
