In this special session of the Biophysics and Systems Biology Seminar Series, we will discuss a variety of topics dealing with the UCI High Performance Computing cluster from a user-level perspective. These topics include, but are not limited to:

  • HPC basics
    • How the HPC can get things done quickly
    • Utilizing the HPC
  • Handling data
    • Editing and subsetting the contents of large files
    • Editing large numbers of files in an automated fashion
  • Good practices in script writing and file organization
  • Parallelizing computational tasks and automating job submissions

These discussion will be lead by Kerrigan Blake, Nick Pervolarakis, and Matt Bovyn who together have used the HPC for tasks ranging from bioinformatics and data handling to the running of biophysical simulations.

We invite students from all backgrounds to join us in learning and sharing information about how we can optimize our research by using HPC resources effectively.
