We have answered a few support emails lately addressing a problem of comments disappearing. It turns out that the comments were erroneously marked as “spam” by the Akismet spam filter. Comment spam is quite common on WordPress sites and blogs. To combat this we have a plugin installed that analyzes comments to see if they are spam. It does a good job and has a 99.5% accuracy rate. However, it is not perfect and sometimes marks a comment as spam when it is not.
If you have comments disappearing, check your Comments for Spam and mark them as “Not Spam”. See below for instructions.
- In the Dashboard/Admin area, go to Comments
- At the top of the screen, click on Spam to see only the comments marked as Spam
- Check to see if any of the comments are erroneously marked as Spam.
- You can either hover over the comment and click “Not Spam” or select multiple comments and click the Bulk Actions drop down menu and select “Not Spam” and Apply.
