The Body of Knowledge conference includes a broad range of opportunities for the presentation of artworks, performances, and other projects. Selected presenters will be eligible for reduced registration.

Exhibition
The exhibition, A Body of Knowledge, co-curated by David Familian and Simon Penny, will run at the Beall Center for Art +Technology, October–December 2016.
Proposals are invited for artworks related to the themes of the conference.  Proposals are not restricted in terms of media. Works already in development or nearing completion will be preferred. Financial support–funding for personal travel, transport of work, and accommodation for exhibition installation may be available at the discretion of the exhibition committee.

Applications will be accepted through the link at the bottom of this page, and must include contact information, a signed waiver, biography, CV, a short description of the work, and technical specifications.

Research and Development Residency/Fellowship
In addition to the general call for proposals, we are excited to be able to offer one research and development residency on campus at UCI. Winning residents will generate a project to be include in the exhibition. We invite proposals for existing works that address issues related to embodiment that would benefit from additional research and development. Possible collaborators at UC Irvine are the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine, Cognitive Science Department, Department of Neurobiology and Behavior, Computational Vision Lab etc. A stipend of up to $10,000 will be provided by the Beall Center for accommodations, flight, and honorarium. Applications for residency must include:

  • A project description explaining aesthetic, theoretical, and technical aspects.  (max. 500 words)
  • A short statement identifying the areas of research or particular researchers at UCI you would hope to work with. (max. 300 words)
  • A list of materials, techniques, and equipment required to further develop and set up the artwork.
  • Possible dates of the two-week period you are available for residency
  • Link to website or video documentation on Youtube or Vimeo.

Your submission must also include the signed waiver form, found here: Presentation and Publication Waiver Form For multiple collaborators, please upload a single, multi-page file.
