Canvas has been updated with a variety of new or enhanced functionality, including the ability to include announcements on a custom homepage, streamlined student access to scheduler items, enhanced course listings, updated re-ordering functionality within ePortfolios, updated icons, and a variety of bug fixes.

Customized announcements listing on the custom homepage

Provided by Instructure

If an instructor has created a custom homepage for the course using a Front Page, they can opt to display a specific number of recent announcements at the top of the page.

To enable this feature, instructors can select the Show Recent Announcements checkbox in Course Settings and specify the number of recent announcements that should be shown (up to 15). By default, the interface displays three announcements unless the number is adjusted.

Note: Announcements are not removed from the home page after a specific date, so instructors who post a large number of announcements may consider setting the display to show more announcements; instructors who only periodically post announcements may consider setting the display to show a smaller number.

Student access to Scheduler Items

Provided by Instructure

When a student clicks Scheduler within their personal calendar in EEE Canvas, they will see all events available to them.

For more information, see How do I sign up for an appointment using the Scheduler?

Customized Courses Listing

Provided by Instructure

For users who have never customized their courses list, Canvas has increased the number of courses automatically displayed in the Dashboard and Courses menu item on the left. If the Courses menu includes more than 12 courses, the Courses menu includes a scrollbar.

Streamlined moving of content in an ePortfolio

Provided by Instructure

Students can now use the Move to menu item from the gear within an ePortfolio to reorder the items within the ePortfolio menu.

Updated icons

The existing Canvas icon font has been updated with a new Instructure icon library. This new library also enables consistency across all Canvas products and is already incorporated into the Canvas mobile apps.

Bug Fixes Provided by Instructure

  • Course imports that included a custom homepage now retain the home page layout
  • SpeedGrader comments saved as draft do not display in the Dashboard
  • Files can now accept folders with special characters in the filename
  • If a TA only has access to specific sections within a Course Space, they will only receive grading notifications for their sections
