The Fall 2017 Schedule of Classes will be posted this Saturday, May 6 at http://websoc.reg.uci.edu/perl/WebSoc. In preparation, we have compiled the following information for you regarding enrollment in CHP courses for the upcoming quarter. For more information on when to enroll, be sure to visit the Registrar’s calendar. The CHP staff will be available next week to answer your enrollment questions. In fact, the week 6 coffee hour (Friday, May 12th, 9:00-11:00 a.m.) is designated for drop-in advising and the CHP advisors will be available to answer your questions over coffee and donuts (or bagels!)
CHEMISTRY H30A – NEW HONORS CURRICULUM TRACK, “SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES”
- Who should enroll: Rising CHP sophomores who are finishing up Humanities Core and intend to complete all six courses of the new track rather than Social Science Core + Science Core
- All current CHP freshmen who complete Honors Humanities Core are eligible and have been pre-authorized to begin the track in the fall
SOCIAL SCIENCE H1G
- Who should enroll: All sophomores and juniors have been pre-authorized for Honors Social Science Core.
- If Social Science H1G is full before you enroll and you need to take the course next quarter, then add yourself to the waitlist. Alternatives to Social Science H1G include taking Bio Sci H90 or one of the designated special honors seminars.
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES H90:
- Who should enroll: This class has been specially designed for CHP non-science majors. All sophomores and juniors have been pre-authorized for Science Core.
- This course will cover the history of scientific inquiry.
SPECIAL HONORS SEMINARS
The CHP is pleased to offer specially designed honors seminars that can be used to substitute for one quarter of a CHP core course as designated by the CHP. Please visit the Honors Seminars webpage for course descriptions and for more information about how these seminars may help you fulfill your CHP core course requirements. You may use ONE total seminar to substitute for ONE QUARTER of a CHP core course as designated by the CHP. Only ONE total substitution is permitted per student throughout their entire time at UCI, although you may take as many seminars as you wish for GE or elective credit. CHP sophomores, juniors, seniors and transfer students have been pre-authorized to enroll in these courses. Seminars offered for fall 2017 include:
- CHC/LAT H80 – “Latino Childhoods” with Professor Anita Casavantes Bradford
Credit: GE Category III, may substitute for one quarter of Social Science Core - HUMAN H80 – “Exploring Memory” with Professor Sarah Farmer
Credit: GE Category III, may substitute for one quarter of Social Science Core - LPS H81 – “What is Space?” with Professor John Manchak
Credit: GE Category II, may substitute for one quarter of Science Core
ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- All CHP courses must be taken for a letter grade.
- Honors to Honors transfer students, please note that you are required to take one CHP research seminar or one course toward completion of your school/major honors program during your first year at UCI.
- If you have unexpected or unusual scheduling difficulties, or if you are planning to study abroad or participate in UCDC during fall quarter, you must submit a petition (to postpone, etc.) by the end of week 8. Petitions are not guaranteed to be approved.
- Please note that you do not need to take CHP Social Science Core and Science Core in order. You just need to take at least one course a quarter until both cores are completed.
- Seniors who need to enroll in Science Core or Social Science Core, please email honors@uci.edu by May 18th to be authorized to enroll.
