Iman Siddiqi is a Political Science and Global Middle East Studies double major. She is a public relations specialist and executive board member for Hearts of Mercy at UCI, a student organization that strives to raise awareness and create opportunities for refugees.

I am a public relations specialist and executive board member forHearts of Mercy at UCI, a new student campus organization that strives to raise awareness and create opportunities for refugees. During the 2016-2107 academic year, I have been advocating for students displaced by conflict, and I am currently piloting a scholarship fund for refugees at UCI as well as working to develop a program that helps refugee student with the college application process. In order to raise awareness on campus about refugees, I have been working with Hearts of Mercy and F.R.E.S.H. Start to bringing Refugee Awareness Week to UCI. Starting today, there will be discussions, exhibits, and a screening of an award-winning documentary about the global refugee crisis with a focus on Syria.

Humanities Core Research Paper Workshop

Hello Humanities Core students! If you are not sure how to continue with your research paper, then this workshop is for YOU! The objective of this workshop is to help you with the process of writing your research paper as you are beginning to compile your sources and interpret your artifact further. Let faculty from the Writing Center who are familiar with the Humanities Core curriculum and the research paper help you with the process! They can help with the organization of the paper and with any other questions you may have. Please fill out the interest form below so that the Writing Center knows the expected attendance at this workshop. RSVP here!

“I’m gonna make an offer you can’t refuse!” We have a Fireside Chat on May 19th, from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. and will be watching The Godfather*, a movie classic, with Professor Chiampi. Food will also be provided. Professor Chiampi is an Italian and French professor who is very knowledgeable about the Italian mafia. Spring Bonfire

Summer is fast approaching which means it is time to head to the beach!  Did you love Fall Bonfire?  Come out to the CHP’s Spring Bonfire on Sunday, May 21st from 3:00-7:00 p.m.!  It will be an afternoon in the sun full of burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, snacks, smores and socializing with your CHPeers!  The bonfire will cost $1 and will be at Huntington Beach.  Have no fear if you don’t have a car – we will organize rides!  This is such a great way to close out the year so make sure you don’t miss it!  Sign up here and bring $1 to the CHP office by 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18th.

Artmaking Workshop with Trinh Mai

Come and make your own mixed-media art work with artist Trinh Mai! With the focus on memory and family, please bring a photo that evokes memories for you to turn into a work of art. This hands-on workshop is the culmination of CHP’s yearlong series with Trinh Mai, who has visited the CHP Honors Seminar on the Vietnam War and hosted CHPers at her studio. She is the artist in residence at Grand Central Art Gallery and formerly of the Vietnamese American Oral History Project at UCI.
