Course for CHP Thesis Support

May 15, 2017

CHP Director Ted Wright will teach a set of research courses next year that will provide CHP students who are not participating in an upper division school or major honors program with extra support during the honors thesis process: University Studies H176A (Fall) and H176C (Spring). [Note: These courses do not replace the required two quarters of research with your thesis advisor.]
University Studies H176A, 2 units pass/no pass, W 2:00-3:50 p.m. in SSL 171. If you want to take the course but have a conflict with this time, Professor Wright will try to adjust the schedule. This course will help you identify, understand, refine, and then become proficient describing the goals of your research and its background. Under Professor Wright’s guidance, you will learn about the research process, and work to create a research plan, and an abstract or prospectus that can become the basis for your introduction. In-class discussion, peer edits and feedback will offer the kind of support you would have in a research group. For an authorization code, email with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your Student ID #
  • The name of your faculty advisor
  • A couple of sentences about where you are in your research/thesis process.

Humans of CHP: 2017-2018 PAAs

May 15, 2017

We are excited to announce the new Honors PAAs for the 2017-2018 academic year!

Rosie (Rosalind) Ball (2nd year mathematics), Fernando Montes (2nd year civil engineering major), Daria Nahidipour (3rd year genetics major) and Jacob Samson (2nd year aerospace engineering major).

Favorite CHP experience:

One of our favorite CHP experiences is Bonfire. The beach bonfires are a great opportunity to spend the afternoon hanging out with friends at the beach. They are a nice bookend to the year: in the Fall you can meet new first year CHPeople and welcome them into the community, and in the Spring you can catch up with the CHP community before heading into summer. Not to mention, the burgers, hot dogs, and s’mores always hit the spot! We encourage you to come out and join us at Bonfire next Sunday, May 21st from 3 to 7 p.m.!
