I chose to participate in the Costa Rica Program because I realized that this project would expose me to a great degree of cultural diversity. This program will give me both a theoretical understanding of how to study a new culture, through the class, and the actual practice, by going to Costa Rica. Exploring a completely new culture is always very exciting for me. In addition, I am looking forward to meeting great peer teammates and working with them for two quarters. As an international student, this experience is extremely valuable, since I will also reach a deep understanding of American culture by working with the team. I believe that by attending this program, I will be able to develop team working skills as well as an understanding of how to create group projects, thus leading to better performance in my academic studies and in my career life.

My passion for cultural diversity comes from my previous traveling experience. Europe was the first place I went outside of my home country. I was fascinated by the cultural diversity of the cities and the people. They have distinctive customs, values, and social norms. I was impressed by these differences and cannot stop exploring more. Since that trip, I have been to Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Jamaica and America. I am looking forward to this cultural immersion and I will share my experience with my friends and fellow students when I return.
