I am Sabina Nussipov and I am a fourth year Public Health Science Major. I saw the flier for the Costa Rica Program and was instantly drawn to it. My passion is to learn more about the world; my natural curiosity has left me with bruises and scrapes on my body but an enchantment for life in my soul. I think being open to new experiences and new opportunities is what makes life so full and colorful! That is why I cannot wait to be immersed in a new culture and to learn about this wonderful country and it’s people. In addition, I enjoy the wonders that the earth has to offer, there are so many beautiful sights to behold and I want to live a life of exploration. I am looking forward to sharing my childlike admiration for the world with my team mates throughout all of our adventures together! The sustainability aspect of this program was something I was interested in educating myself more in. As a public health sciences major I met a wonderful professor, Dr. Sami, and she always says “we need to put the health of this planet at the center of the public health conversation”. I full heartedly believe in this idea and it sparked a passion in me. It reminds me how deeply interconnected our health is to the health of this earth. I want to work on improving the health of humans and we can’t do that if we don’t make changes in the way we treat our environment. I am looking forward to spending time with all the new people we will meet. I am looking forward to listening and learning about their culture and their efforts to keep Costa Rica healthy and beautiful. I hope to gain more knowledge about the interconnectedness of life and sustainability efforts in hopes of learning how we can create a healthier environment for all of us living on this planet.
