WordPress supports adding audio files, such as MP3 files, into your site. Above the Visual Editor is the Add Media button. This allows you to upload images and files including audio files.
Add and Upload Audio Files
Note: We do have a 2 MB limit on file uploads. If your audio file is bigger than this, you may need to upload it to another service (like WebFiles) and then use the Add Audio from URL instructions below.
- In your post, click where you want to add your audio file.
- Click the Add Media button.

- In the Insert Media screen, click Select Files, browse to your file, then click Upload. (Alternately, you can drag your audio file into the “Drop files here” box.)
- Your audio file will be uploaded to your site and the window will expand to allow you to enter more information about your file.
- Title – Title of your audio file. This will be the clickable link to your audio file on your post.
- Caption – Caption for your audio file. (Optional)
- Description – Description of your audio file. (Optional)
- Link To – Options include Attachment Page, Custom URL, Media File or None.
- Click Insert into Post. Once an audio file has been uploaded it will be available from the Media Library if you want to use it again.
- When your readers click the audio link, a new web page will open with a playable version of your audio file.
Add Audio from a URL
If your MP3 file already exists online, you may add the Audio from a URL.
- In your post, click where you want to add your audio file.
- Click the Add Media button.
- From the left pane, click Insert from URL
- Type or paste the URL for the audio file in the Audio File URL field. This is a required field.
- Type a Title for the Audio link. This will be the clickable link to your audio file on your post. This is also a required field.
- When your readers click the audio link, a new web page will open with a playable version of your audio file.
