“I believe, like Mary Roosevelt, in the importance of providing educational opportunities for all students.”

Stephanie Walter is a Masters of Arts in Teaching/Multiple Subject Credential student at UC Irvine.

Stephanie graduated cum laude in June 2014 from the UCLA College Honors Program with a bachelor’s degree in English and an Education minor. As an undergraduate, Stephanie was the recipient of an UCLA Alumni Scholarship and a Frank M. Doyle Scholarship.

During her four years at UCLA, Stephanie was a part of Los Angeles Team Mentoring, an after school program for middle school students living in challenging urban environments. The program focuses on the core skills needed to develop resilient young adults. For her last two years in the program, she was a coordinator between Los Angeles Team Mentoring and UCLA.

Stephanie also interned in a second grade classroom at Nora Sterry Elementary School in Los Angeles Unified School District for one year.

These experiences helped develop my desire to work with underserved students, work I am continuing in my student teaching at a local Title I school.

Stephanie spent the last two summers teaching swim lessons. As a three-year club lacrosse player at UCLA and a high school athlete, she enjoys bringing her love of sports to students.

I am thrilled to be a Mary Roosevelt Scholarship recipient. I believe, like Mary Roosevelt, in the importance of providing educational opportunities for all students.
