Feminist encounters with Wikipedia

wikipedia-newyork-april2015EAD faculty member Antoinette LaFarge is taking part in a panel entitled “Feminist Encounters with Wikipedia” at the New School, New York, on April 1, 2015. The topic is systemic gaps in participation in editing Wikipedia, where the editor base is currently 87% male. Unsurprisingly, consistent underrepresentation is also reflected in Wikipedia’s content and coverage. Recent feminist initiatives working to counter these biases have garnered much attention. In addition to reporting on quantitative aspects of these successes, the panel will explore questions around digital labor and sustainability. The panel was organized by Anne Balsamo, and other panelists include Marcea Decker and Dorothy Howard, with Veronica Paredes as the moderator. Free and open to the public.
