Here you will find links to a variety of websites offering DIY instruction of all kinds, but especially in the areas of technology experimentation, design, and physical media. These are good places to check first if you need to know how to make some component of a larger work but you never had any training in that particular skill set. Even if you don’t end up making it yourself, you’ll be better prepared to talk to someone who can.

DIYphotography.net : instructions for setting up a photo studio and lots of tips & tricks of the trade; especially good for low-cost solutions

d.i.y. public art : a wealth of information for artists embarking on public art projects
