We experienced a major service interruption that started early Sunday morning that impacted Mail services, Exchange, Webfiles, Sites@UCI, and many of the virtual servers.

Some time after 1am, one of the network blades in our primary Cisco router for the OIT DC failed. OIT staff were notified and people were on-site after 2am. The problem blade was identified and replaced around 5am.

Sites@UCI was rebooted at 6:15 am and service was restored.

OIT already had a plan to replace the aging Cisco router in the OIT DC and has placed an order for new Cisco equipment. OIT will review our monitoring and response procedures to see how we can improve our handling of these situations.

The UC Irvine School of Law International Justice Clinic is pleased to release The Council and the Court, a report designed to answer critical questions about how the UN Security Council may improve its support of the International Criminal Court (ICC): What steps may be taken to convert the rhetorical and political support of the Council to concrete measures supporting Court activities? How may supporters build lasting support for the Court on the Council? How can strong support be developed without compromising the ICC’s independence? What kind of efforts might be helpful to build lasting support in perceived-to-be reluctant capitals, especially Beijing and Moscow?

The friendships you made, the lasting memories you created, it’s all a part of the Anteater experience. In the spirit of tradition and class pride, give back to your University with a special gift to the Class Reunion Campaign. Funds directly support Anteaters in areas of tuition, research, programs and student initiatives. Today’s students can’t do it alone—alumni support bridges the tuition gap and your gift goes further than you realize. Each gift, whatever the size, is impactful and appreciated.

Looking for a mobile-friendly theme that is highly customizable? We have just launched Prose, a Genesis Framework theme that gives you point and click control over the design of your blog or site.

We have just launched a new highly customizable theme called Prose. It is built upon the Genesis Framework and includes the following features.

Responsive Design – allows your content to be displayed well on desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets.

Point and click design settings including colors, fonts, background, headers and more.

7 Widget areas including the header, two sidebars, after post and three footer areas.

6 Default layout options. Can also be changed on a post or page basis.

2 Menu Locations

Breadcrumbs

Custom backgrounds

Custom headers

Although the default settings are plain, its point and click design control allows you to change almost any aspect of your site. For site administrators looking for a way to design your own site or blog, this may be the solution you’ve wanted.

Prose with default style settings.

Using Prose

Go to Appearance > Themes and search for Prose

Click Live Preview to see how it will look. (It’s very plain out of the box.)

Click Activate to make it the active theme.

Go to Genesis > Design Settings to start configuring the design to your liking.

Also make sure to look at Genesis > Theme Settings to set up the default layout, breadcrumbs, and other extras.

We recently discovered and fixed a bug with Private Sites. Although unlikely, it was possible for Subscribers to read private websites. To do so, they would have needed to know the private address, never logged into any site before, and have a UCInetID. We have notified all site owners affected and fixed the bug. Subscribers no longer have access to reading Private Sites.

If you have a Private Site and want to add additional users, make sure the give them a role of Subscriber-PrivateSite or higher.

Note: Sites@UCI Network Administrators can access blogs and sites for support and development purposes regardless of Privacy setting.

Notice anything different when editing a Post or Page? Right next to the Add Media button is a new button called Insert Slideshow.

This new tool makes it easy to create multiple slideshows that can be inserted into Posts, Pages and even Widget areas.

The Slideshow tool has many settings to help you create the slideshow you want. If you know CSS, you can even adjust the styles to customize it even more.

See our new Slideshow Help Document for more details.

Note: This plugin is replaces Portfolio Slideshow, which has been deprecated. If you have created slideshows using Portfolio Slideshow, they will still work for now. However, we recommend creating new ones using this tool. It’s easier, more flexible, and more powerful.
