Welcome to UCI Food Action. This portal provides a calendar of events and opportunities to engage at UCI in work that supports the Global Food Initiative’s underlying goals.
Background: President Napolitano and chancellors from all 10 campuses have taken another courageous step toward a more sustainable future by creating the UC Global Food Initiative, a program committed to expanding research and sharing best practices to improve food systems. The Initiative aims to “rally the broad UC community across a wide range of disciplines to work toward putting the world on a path to sustainably and nutritiously feed itself.”
Goals include:
• Identifying best practices and sharing widely within UC, California, the nation and the world;
• Using the power of UC research and extension to help individuals and communities access safe, affordable and nutritious food while sustaining our natural resources;
• Deploying UC’s research to shape, impact and drive policy discussions around food issues at the local, statewide, national and international levels.
Food Action at UCI: Our campus is providing system-wide leadership on zero waste dining facilities; several centers, institutes and initiatives are convening scholarly work; student leaders are addressing campus food security and practical classes on sustainable eating and cooking abound.
Use this portal to get involved and to share with others how to become involved in the food action events you host.
This portal was designed by the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, together with Hospitality and Dining Services and the Sustainability Initiative. The portal is maintained by UCI’s Global Food Initiative Student Engagement Fellow.
