Food speaks. It communicates memories, histories, and ideologies, shared experiences and emotions. Oftentimes, certain foods speak louder than others, occupying a larger space in our cultural imaginary and drowning out other food voices, which can go unheard. Scholars define the “food voice” as a “channel for the expression of meaning.” Thus, food is not only a representation of culture, identity and space, it is also a medium of communication through which people talk back, speak out, and speak through. Learn to listen to the food voice as we share a meal and participate in a delicious conversation.
