The Career Development for Historians Program (CDH) is designed to foster conversations, build scholarly and other professional skills, explore options, and develop students’ confidence in a diverse and demanding employment landscape.
History PhDs possess a range of malleable skills that include, but aren’t limited to:
- the ability to quickly deconstruct and synthesize complex texts
- synthesizing, creating, and communicating compelling narratives
- viewing issues from a variety of perspectives, expanding and narrowing their lines of sight to analyze problems on multiple scales
- navigating hierarchical bureaucracies and complex, overlapping institutional landscapes, preparing them for corporate, non-profit, and government careers
- providing a level of cognitive diversity that is often absent in corporate, non-profit, and government job sectors
- writing for a variety of audiences, allowing them to communicate effectively
