Groups will present plays created last week from Aesop’s Fables.
Reminder for next week: Bring a fresh flower to class!
According to legend, the fables we will present this week were the work of Aesop, a slave and storyteller who lived in Ancient Greece around the 6th century before the common era (B.C.E.). However, the fables were part of an oral tradition and were not written down until 300 years after Aesop’s death. By that time, a wide variety of stories, jokes and proverbs were credited to him, some of which appear to have had their origins outside Ancient Greece. Theater–as we know it in Western Culture–also had its roots in Ancient Greece, perhaps a century after Aesop. We will discuss that this week.
Learning Objectives for Week 3:
- Explain the roots of ancient Greek theater and its legacy
- Discuss use of role playing to teach social skills to students on autism spectrum
- Write a story, based on an experience, using strategies borrowed from theater
- Describe cultural interpretations of the color gold
