Remember to bring fresh flowers to class!
Visual art has become such a ubiquitous element of human culture that, when the word “art” is used alone, people will assume that the reference is to visual art. Yet, we seldom think of the impact that art–or even just color–has on us. This week we will talk about how visual art shapes our daily environment–perhaps even our mood. We will start this class with the true story of a city that used color to jump-start a fight against hopelessness.
Learning Objectives for Week 4:
- Understand the Elements of Art
- Describe Studio Habits of Mind
- Discuss the cultural symbolism associated with specific colors
- Capture subtle colors of living flowers with water color paints
- Utilize visual art as a cognitive tool to represent an idea
