IGSA Elections 2015-2016

President

Kate Ringland I love the Informatics department because it is full of diverse, interesting students. IGSA is a great way to bring these students together both socially and professionally. I would like to help continue IGSA’s traditions of fun social gatherings, while also bringing more of an emphasis on events that can help with building professional skills. This would include group events to help with fellowship applications, practicing talks, and finding internships. I will work closely with the IGSA board to bring you fun, yummy ways to network with your peers, advance your research, and excel in your careers.

Treasurer

Marie Tsaasan If elected I promise to use AGS funds to extend Oliver's legacy and get those kittens jet packs. Or not, depending on how to best serve the needs of our community, with skills acquired through my Minor in Civic and Community Engagement and by serving on community boards. In the past I have served on the City of Reno's Ward 5 Neighborhood Advisory Board overseeing a budget of $45k and Kiwanis International of Downtown Spark with an annual budget of $60k. I welcome an opportunity to serve the graduate community as we support each other in this academic endeavor.

Mark Baldwin When you think of IGSA you think of coffee, right? If elected, I promise to make at least one IGSA coffee hour the best you've ever had. As a well known coffee connoisseur, I will use my personal home roasting and brewing equipment to deliver a coffee drinking experience unlike any other. Oh, I also founded and operated a corporation for twelve years so I know all the IRS loopholes to ensure your hard earned IGSA money will make this year one to remember.

Social Chair

Dan Gardner I like to eat food with people and do activities. If elected, I will try to convince the IGSA to even more things than they already do that involve eating, with people, while doing activities. I have been known to host board game nights and such myself, and can't promise that won't leak into my official duties.

Lou Ann Boyd My work in the Department of Informatics involves using tech to support social interactions for vulnerable populations. Being social is a really good thing. I would like to be part of that effort here at school. I don't want to write about it here, I would rather talk to you in person!

Communications Chair

Sanna Ali I'm a big fan of our grad student community in Informatics and love catching up with everyone at IGSA events. I'd love to be more involved and chime in with my perspective as an OC native. Why should you vote for me? "Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it people like me!" [https://youtu.be/-DIETlxquzY] And if you need any convincing that I can manage IGSA social media, just check out my personal Twitter account @sannasideup. I totally have like 10 followers (including spambots!). #voteforsanna #youknowyouwanna
