Collapse – a few years

Terrain – agriculture

Object – advertisement

Mood – admiration

In this collapsed world a few years from now, an agriculture advertisement features an item that allows people to accelerate their home gardens.  In this post-collapse world, people have to grow their own food as grocery markets have shut down.  It’s a device that encircles the plant and allows it to grow through the seasons quickly.  Changing a seed to afruit-bearingg plant in minutes.

Exercise 3.4: Speculations – Krystle Young

Arc: Transform
Terrain: Justice
Object: Corporation
Mood: Outrage

Reporter: “I’m outside the Los Angeles Superior Court where the City of Los Angeles has just announced their decision to become embroiled in the legal battle against the corporation known simply as B!LL$, a start up that is capitalizing on street art and wall murals which have caused public outrage among residents with the types of large scale risque, lewd, inflammatory messages images on public display. Residents argue that it has become graffiti and that is should not be permitted to go up let alone be accessed and capitalized upon through B!LL$’ mobile app. People are outraged because they believe that B!LL$ is incentivizing the scandalous works by paying artists more for each view. Some say these images and messages should be censored in situ and on the app. Others have asked that they come with rating systems with advance warnings like those already implemented on TV, movies, and video games. B!LL$ has remained steadfast in their commitment to protecting the anonymity of the artists who are responsible for these offensive works which has put them directly in the line of fire from the city.”

Discipline • Citizenship • Law • Longing

It is 2075. The issues of the early 21st Century have been all but forgotten. The
olds who talk about the “good old days” before the Adjudicators are probably
senile. The way they talk about how they could walk around outdoors
without registering is unfathomable. Walking is all but forbidden. Laws
are in place to keep track of us. To keep us safe. To make sure there aren’t
any Rackets hiding in our country. The iris recognition systems are very safe
and non-invasive.

The public transportation systems aren’t anything like what the olds say.
The PT system is really well maintained and goes anywhere you need it to.
I always get a seat, it’s always quiet.

mc-bus
The olds tell us that there were places that had NO system. That people had to
figure out how to get around without the help of the PT. They also tell us
how the systems in place, called subways, were loud, dirty, smelly, crowded.
That sounds awful. How can they tell us that it was better back then?

They keep saying that they want to just “wander around the streets” and show
us pictures from the 2000s. They tell us how they loved the “bustle” and
bumping into people and fighting for space on the sidewalk.

What do they know? They’re old and just don’t appreciate what the Adjudicators
do to enforce the law and keep us all safe. I wish they would just stop talking about it.
We’re never going back there. Get over it.

Exercise 3.4: Speculations

Project idea: Bumpin’ Blood Donation bus. Blood donation vehicles but with a fun flair to encourage people to donate.

Collapse, Governance, Logo, Outrage

The year is 2100. A global economic collapse has thrust humanity into desperate conditions. Rising from the ashes of the global collapse, one universal authoritarian government is established.

People do not have enough food to survive. The government starts a program where people can donate blood in exchange for food and and shelter. The more blood you give, the better quality your food and shelter are. The blood keeps the government officials healthy and alive at the expense of the global citizens.

Human blood is now a currency. Organized crime rises once again; this time they abduct people and drain them of their blood. The dons order the draining of blood of thousands of people so they can live in sprawling homes eating the finest food the government will provide. The government is inevitably corrupted by the organized crime syndicate.

The Bumpin’ Blood Donation bus is where people go to donate their blood for government use and get their food and vouchers for shelter. The bus is meant to lure people to donate blood for the government, but the organized crime syndicates have replicated the buses and used their logo in order to lure people of their own.

One night a group of rogue citizens breaks into the government compound and sees them living in mansions while they live in squalor. On this night, the global leader is making a deal with the crime syndicate to provide them with a new high-class compound of their own. They leave without being caught and spread the word of what they witnessed. Over the next few weeks, citizens gather in underground lairs to formulate a plan to cut-off their life-source: the blood.

Three months later they break back into the compound and discover the top-secret room where all the blood is kept. They lock themselves inside while the alarms rage. No one can get to them now, they think. They begin to furiously stab all the bags lining the walls.

A revolution is brewing. It will be a blood bath.

Collapse, Education, Corporation, Anxiety

Mommy, mommy, we learned about corporations today in school! They sounded so scary. Why did people not go out and play?

workers

Oh, well honey, people needed to make money to live you see and that was one of the ways people could get money to support their families. But the corporations got greedy, and they thought only about themselves and not the people working for them. And one day, there was an uprising, the workers they decided they couldn’t take it anymore and they rebelled. It was a truly unstable time.

rebel

Mommy, we are going on a field trip to one of these places. They controlled the internet or something? Goooogle I think they said it was called. How could one thing have so much control and then lose it all?

Well you see, they tried to do things to keep their workers happy, they created these public displays to say that they cared about their employees. I remember how beautiful they were, but it came down to culture. And the corporate culture for any of them is rooted in anxiety and stress. Nothing you need to worry about honey, we don’t have that anymore.
