With help from a group of faculty and staff, we took on the challenge of this available octagonal space to experiment with new furniture layouts and new technologies to create UCI’s first General Assignment Active Learning Classroom.

After months of planning, design, construction, AV systems installation and testing, SE101 held its first classes in Winter Quarter, 2016. Courses ranging from Earth Systems Science, to Economics, to English, and History helped us “break in” the room. Spring Quarter classes include Quantum Physics, Computer Music Programming, Environmental Policy, Criminology, Organizational Problem Solving,  and Social Ecology Field Study.

Technical details for the room can be found on our GAC website. We are gathering feedback from faculty and students, and collecting data about how the room is being used to inform decisions about future classroom configurations and teaching practices.
