Intellectual Challenges and Internship Opportunities for Mechanical Engineering Students

Published by under Engineering Opportunities

I’m reaching out to you because I have awesome opportunities to share with the Mechanical Engineering graduate and undergraduate students at UCI.

My name is Aaron, and I’m a recent graduate working at MindSumo. Our company’s goal is to connect students to potential employers through technical challenges which allow students to be hired for internships, win cash prizes, and build a portfolio of projects. We just added new challenges specifically for Mechanical Engineering students.

This Challenge from John Deere asks students to design a durable yet easy-to-replace lawn mower blade and offers $500 in prizes.

This Challenge from an anonymous snack company asks students to come up with a more efficient way to deal with bag expansion while shipping snacks across the Rocky Mountains and offers $1000 in prizes.

I know that UCI Mechanical Engineering students could really shine by participating in these challenges.

APPLICATIONS ENGINEER TRAINEE – Los Angeles, CA

Published by under Engineering Opportunities

This is a rare opportunity for you to leverage your classwork in engineering and manufacturing experience to become an Applications Engineer with a manufacturer of engineered commercial products within a two year period. Following a formal Applications Engineering training program, you will travel the U.S. and Europe 25% of the time, assessing customer requirements for products, evaluating designs, making technical presentations, using 3D modeling for design feasibility and performance, and strengthening relationships with customers.  Their customers include a long list of Fortune 500 corporations in the farm equipment, construction, transportation, and material handling industries. The atmosphere is unstructured and freewheeling, allowing plenty of opportunities for career advancement.  Because this is a dynamic, rapidly changing company, serious opportunities for career growth abound. This new training program will include exposure to manufacturing methods, one year in design engineering, one year in applications engineering, travel to a number of corporate manufacturing sites, materials research, seminars on team building, and on making presentations, and more. The salary ranges between $50,000 for light experience to $65,000. Benefits include Aetna Choice POS II Medical, Met Life Dental, vision care, tuition aid and company-matched 401 (k). Requires some manufacturing experience (design or manufacturing engineering dept. preferred), some college engineering coursework, “roots in Los Angeles”, a people-oriented personality, strong mechanical aptitude, an interest in travel, and the drive to build a longterm career in engineering.  Contact Kent Kirkland, C.P.C. , KirklandSEARCH , (203) 729-7000 9-5 Eastern time, kirkland@kirklandsearch.com
