Part-Time Student Work Opportunity

Medtronic Orange County located in Santa Ana, CA is seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers for
two part-time student/work opportunities in the R&D heart valve division. Positions will have work
hours that can accommodate individual school schedules and are paid on an hourly basis. Interested
candidates should be capable of working a minimum of 10 hours/week.  The two positions seeking to
be filled are described below:

1) Laboratory Technician Assistant – Position will be expected to provide assistance to the
biomaterials laboratory, which includes mechanical, chemical, and analytical functions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •     preparing standardized chemical solutions
  •     set up simple apparatus for laboratory experiments
  •     activities to keep laboratory facilities clean and sanitary
  •     maintain constant inventory/availability of materials in laboratory
  •     set up and maintain equipment such as fume hoods, fans, emergency lights, water drains andspecial fixtures
  •     assist in the assembly, testing and operation of complex laboratory equipment
  •     assist in data analysis and test documentation

Minimum Requirements: Be a Junior or Senior in Biomedical Engineering and have completed at least
one laboratory course (including Chemistry Lab) or have experience working in a laboratory setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software to analyze data and complete required documentation. GPA –
3.0 or higher

2)  Design and Development Engineer Assistant – Position will be expected to provide assistance to
the design and development of devices, mechanisms, and test methods pertaining to new and modified
heart valve products and accessories. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •     design with 3D CAD software
  •     assist in the assembly, testing and operation of complex mechanical equipment
  •     assist in data analysis and test documentation
  •     other responsibilities include: planning and organizing work activities according to the
  •     project goals and objectives

Minimum Requirements: Be a Junior or Senior in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Have experience with 3D CAD software (i.e. SolidWorks, ProEngineer). Understanding of materials and
designs used in biomedical applications and mechanical systems. Strong inclination for virtual
design, analytical methodologies (e.g. FEA), prototyping, concept testing, and hands-on
experimentations are a big plus. GPA – 3.0 or higher

We have an immediate opening for a Compliance Engineer.  This role will perform engineering coordination duties to ensure compliance with ICS Engineering policies and procedures, external standards and regulatory requirements.  This is a fulltime position and will be based in Santa Ana, Ca.

The successful candidate will

•Review Customer, Industry and Military Specifications and Drawings and saving files in Matrix and SAP;

•Coordinate cross functional analysis of specifications;

•Assure configuration management accuracy for Design Change Control Listed products;

•Support Export Control Classification;

•Evaluate materials for Environmental Compliance to RoHS, REACH, WEEE, NADCAP, DFARS, etc, requirements;

•Update documentation, drawings, part number assignments and lists, etc. using the Change Management process;

•Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

•Education: Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Materials)

•Experience: 0 to 3 years required 3 to 5 years preferred

•Computer: CAD 2D and 3D required ProE preferred, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point), Outlook and Internet Explorer

•Knowledge: Practical application of engineering science and technology, design documentation, materials and manufacturing processes

•Skills: Attention to Detail, Analytical Thinking, Dependability, Initiative, Cooperation , Persistance, Independence, Organization and Flexibility.

•Abilities: Information ordering, mathematical and deductive reasoning, written and oral comprehension and communication

Loyola Marymount University Teaching Need

The Mechanical Engineering Department Chair at Loyola Marymount University
is looking for someone with expertise in the Thermal Sciences design area:
Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Heat Exchangers,etc. This is an ongoing
course – prior course material is available to the instructor.

They need a part time instructor in an undergraduate, senior-level course:
MECH 423 – Thermal Systems Engineering.
The need is for Fall 2012 – semester starts August 27, 2012.
Course meeting time is 3:00 to 6:00 on Wednesdays. The enrollment for
this course is unlikely to exceed a dozen students.

Course description:
Thermal Systems Engineering, 3 Semester Hours
Selected topics from thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer to
include: review of fundamental concepts; boundary layer theory; isentropic
flow through nozzles; shock waves; energy analysis; gas mixtures; heat
exchangers and design. Lecture, 3 hours. Prerequisites: MECH 223, 322,
323.
