Who we are


We are a student organization initiated by Merage students at the Paul Merage School of Business at UCI. MHA is all about networking with industry leaders, gaining valuable
insights and advancing your career.

Our Mission

Merage Healthcare Association aims to augment Merage students’ professional growth by bridging connections between them and the healthcare, medical device, and
pharmaceutical industries. Through organizing experiential events, we provide
opportunities for students to expand their industry knowledge, network with alumni, and
engage in community outreach. Our purpose is to enrich the Merage experience and
brand by facilitating exposure to the business aspects of healthcare.

About MHA

Mission Statement


Merage Healthcare Association is a student organization that is focused on:

  • Education – Providing opportunities for students to learn about careers in
    healthcare management and strategic challenges facing healthcare leaders. This
    is done through events, speaker sessions, and engaging with alumni working in
    the industry.
  • Networking – Fostering connections between students and alumni working in
    healthcare/life science leadership roles. The organization provides networking
    events and programs to facilitate these connections.
  • Community Engagement – Promoting collaboration and innovation in healthcare
    through community initiatives. This could involve volunteer work, fundraising, or
    outreach efforts.
  • Leadership Development – Helping students gain exposure to the healthcare
    industry and develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed to excel as future
    healthcare leaders and managers.

Sowmya Mavuluri – MSBTM’24
President

Sowmya is pursuing a Master of Science in Biotechnology Management at the University of California, Irvine, graduating in 2024. Through her bachelor’s degree in biotechnology engineering, she gained research experience in bioinformatics focused on developing potential COVID-19 therapeutics. Most recently, she interned at Zymo Research Corp in market research and consulting space. She is currently channeling her energy into understanding commercialization in the life sciences/healthcare industry with the hope of securing a leadership position in the future. As President of the MHA, she strives to nurture the professional advancement of Merage students by establishing links between them and the healthcare industry, creating opportunities for students to broaden their industry knowledge and participate in community outreach initiatives.

Trevor Jones – MSBTM’24
Vice President

Trevor Jones is a second-year Biotechnology Management student, who prior to attending UCI, worked at UC San Francisco for 7 years in the RadiaEon Oncology
department. There, he studied biological cancer mechanisms with a focus on developing drugs for clinical applications. His undergraduate work was in Cell and
Developmental Biology at UC Santa Barbara. As the Vice President of the MHA, he hopes to bridge the gap between students and the life sciences, healthcare, and
biotechnology industry by providing opportunities to connect and share relevant information.

Anushka Pathrikar – MSBTM’24
Vice President/Treasurer

Anushka is currently in her second year of a master’s program pursuing Biotechnology Management at UCI, a dual degree focusing on both life sciences and business aspects. She completed her Engineering in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai, India. After that, she worked at KPMG as an Analyst in Climate Change and Sustainability Services, assisting in drafting reports, conducting audits and due diligence for various industries. With the MHA, Anushka is determined to create a dynamic platform that empowers students by offering diverse opportunities to connect with the industry. This initiative aims to help students expand their professional network and gain valuable insights into their chosen fields.
