Meet Edna Valdez

Edna ValdezJob title: Student Services Specialist, University Registrar’s Office

Responsibilities: As a Student Services Specialist, Edna serves as a resource and advises students, faculty and staff on all aspects of University Registrar policies and procedures. She also determines residency status for tuition purposes.

Edna comes to UCI from UC Riverside, where she worked in the Registrar’s Office as a Student Affairs Assistant providing service to students in many different areas. Additionally, she has eight years higher education experience at both a California Community College and a private institution.

Prior to entering the field of higher education, Edna worked in a level 10 group home for at-risk teen girls between ages 13-17 who were wards of the court. She was responsible for being a primary caregiver, which meant taking them to and from school, doctor’s and dentist’s appointments and social worker meetings, distributing psychotropic medication, mentoring, tutoring and providing daily meals.

Edna has a passion to help others and her community, which is evident in her work as a tennis coach with the city of Santa Ana and at Century High School, also in Santa Ana. Being part of the higher education system gives her the opportunity to help the community while protecting and maintaining accurate records for all students.

Staff Spotlight: Lindsay Crowell

Meet Lindsay Crowell

Job title: Senior Associate Director, Financial Aid and Scholarships

Responsibilities: Lindsay manages the student services and fiscal management functions within the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. She oversees special student case management, financial aid counseling/advising, and funds management for the office. As the Senior Associate Director, she is highest ranking decision maker in the office after the director of financial aid.

Lindsay joined UCI from Pepperdine University where she oversaw numerous functions including the delivery of financial aid, coordination of audits and NCAA compliance as their Associate Director of Financial Assistance. Before joining Pepperdine Lindsay managed the student services area of the UCLA Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Lindsay brings a wealth of experience and a passion for serving students and families. Lindsay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara and a Masters in Business Administration from American InterContinental University.

Staff Spotlight: Ana Miriam Barragan

 

Meet Ana Miriam Barragan

Job title: UCI Dreamers Coordinator

Responsibilities: As the first UCI Dreamers Coordinator, this position provides support services to students as well as providing information and training to educate our campus community.

Ana comes to UCI from the California State University Northridge Student Outreach and Recruitment Center as an Outreach Recruiter, and she played a fundamental role in the creation of a Dreamer Resource Center at CSUN. She has a double major in Psychology and Deaf Studies, and is trilingual in English, Spanish and American Sign Language.

She is a recent graduate but has 5 years of experience offering trainings and workshops to faculty, staff and students on AB540 and undocumented student issues including DACA, the California Dream Act, and how to create a safe environment for students.

Her experience and knowledge of issues impacting students has made her a committed advocate on behalf of Dreamers. This is her life’s work and her dream job.

Ana will have an office in CFEP (443 SST), but she will spend much of her time in the SOAR Center (106 GC).

Staff Spotlight: LaKeeya Loman

 

Meet LaKeeya Loman

Job title: Financial Analyst and Work-Study Coordinator

Responsibilities: LaKeeya Loman manages the operating budgets and payroll and personnel activities for the Offices of the AVC for Enrollment Services and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. LaKeeya is also the work-study coordinator for the campus and provides analytical and technical support to campus-wide managers, bookkeepers and payroll/personnel coordinators in regards to work-study employment.

LaKeeya joined UCI from the UCSB department of Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences where she provided fiscal support to the department. Prior to joining the Psychological & Brain Sciences, LaKeeya worked in the office of the Dean of the Division of Social Sciences in the College of Letters in Science where she oversaw a variety of fiscal activities include payroll for multiple departments within the College. Before joining UCSB, LaKeeya began her UC career at UC Riverside where she also had financial responsibilities.

Staff Spotlight: Hamid Khosrowabadi

Meet Hamid Khosrowabadi

Hamid KhosrowabadiJob title: Admissions Programming Manager

Responsibilities: Hamid supervises Admissions IT department operations which include administrative support of day to day operations of Admissions office in regards to Student Information System legacy system and its peripherals during each application cycle.

Hamid’s expertise is in the area of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) management, specifically Admissions module and document imaging systems. He has worked in higher education for the past 14 years. Before moving back to his home state of California with his wife, Farideh, and two kids, Daniel and Ryan, he enjoyed working for The University of Tampa for 10 years where he managed and implemented UT’s ERP and document imaging systems.

Outside of work Hamid spends his time with his family. He likes to take his kids to the pool, plays soccer regularly, and is a recreational fisherman – a hobby he picked up while in FL. Hamid is also a human rights activist and organizes workshops that educate the public about universal human rights. Hamid is also active in interfaith and intercultural dialogue arenas.
