Distinguished Professor Elizabeth Loftus holds appointments in Psychology and Social Behavior, Criminology, Law & Society, Cognitive Science, and Law. She teaches a popular undergraduate class called “Eyewitness Testimony.” She is a world-renown scholar on the malleability of human memory. National Championship Repeat for UC Irvine Men’s Volleyball

Recap of Spring 2013 Events for Newly Admitted Students

Thank you for your enthusiasm and interest in the School of Social Ecology. Professional and student staff from the Office of Student Services in the School of Social Ecology participated in several admissions events during the spring. On April 3 and 11, we welcomed newly admitted freshmen and their families to the Discover UCI events. And on April 20, we held an information session and staffed an information booth at the annual Celebrate UCI event.

Newly admitted transfer students will have an opportunity to connect with us at the Discover UCI event on May 17, 2013 at the Student Center. Admitted transfer students will receive more information from the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools. We look forward to seeing you at future events!

Celebrate UCI 2013

Celebrate UCI takes place on Saturday, April 20. Most events begin at 10:00 a.m. This annual spring event features an outdoor festival (Wayzgoose), campus-wide open house, and car show. Wayzgoose, UC Irvine’s oldest tradition, is a student-run festival in Aldrich Park filled with live entertainment, food, games, and rides for everyone.

The School of Social Ecology will have an information table on Ring Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will also hold an information session from 10-11 a.m. in Social Science Hall 100. We look forward to letting you know what our school is doing to live by its motto: Discover . Engage . Transform. Make sure to stop by our booth and talk to our professional and student staff.

So what can you expect? Great weather, academic program information sessions, campus resources, tours of the campus, housing and recreation facilities, performances, food, and much more! Events are free and parking is complimentary.

Explore a Social Ecology Class

What’s an undergraduate class in the School of Social Ecology at UC Irvine like? Daniel Stokols, Chancellor’s Professor of Planning, Policy and Design and Psychology and Social Behavior, has taught an environmental psychology class at UC Irvine since 1973. He figures that translates to roughly 8,000 students. Since his course went online in June, however, a staggering 150,000 more have taken it. His popular Environmental Psychology class is available through iTunes U here. Additionally, Professor Stokols’ lectures have recently been translated into Mandarin, which can be viewed here.

What’s A Typical UC Irvine Student Like?

It’s a difficult question to answer with such an eclectic population. The campus’s 22,000 undergraduates are a mix of California residents, out-of-state enrollees and international students from almost 70 countries. They represent numerous ethnicities, have varied socioeconomic backgrounds and are pursuing different goals. But all are Anteaters. Here’s a look at three of them. One has a passion for community service, one’s an aspiring doctor, and one is turning his love of gaming into a career.

Spring Break 2013

We are wrapping up the winter quarter and our students have finished taking final exams. The campus remains open next week during spring break, but the blog will be on hiatus.
