Research interests: Assessment at the course and program levels, including use of concept inventories. Cultural influences in physics teaching & Learning (how students’, faculty’s, and scientific cultural backgrounds influence physics learning and teaching. UC Merced is a very diverse campus and I think some interactive methods conflict with students’ upbringing. For example, wanting students to question ideas and the instructor butting up against their belief that questioning those in authority is rude. This is something I’ve noticed with our first-generation Hispanic students.)
