  1. Two things captured my attention. The first thing that I thought was remarkable was that although he has gained international fame, he still chooses to stay in the village in his hometown. It goes to show that he really produces music for his passion and love for it and not for the wealth. I also thought the part about the song he wrote for those South Africans who were exiled during apartheid, from their own homeland, was touching, because it shows how important the history is for him, and how he is very much connected to his roots.

  2. The main thing that stood out to me about Vusi Mahlasela, was the fact that he “remains faithful to his roots”. He really takes pride in where he is from and wouldn’t change it for anything. He loves to give back to the community that raised him. Regardless of having to endure the struggles of apartheid in Mamelodi, Mahlasela thought of his home as a place where there’s an overflow of love and affection. To him there is no place like home.

  3. Mahlasela’s great. More amazing than the talent of “The Voice” has got to be his humility. The fact that he still resides in Mamelodi and continuing to build up his country (and continent) by supporting and encouraging the young folk there has got to be just as inspirational for the people there as his great music.
