Academic Counselor
Upon admission to UCI, every undergraduate student is assigned to the school or program that offers the student’s selected major, or to the Division of Undergraduate Education if the student’s major is undecided/undeclared. Before enrolling in classes, students should talk to an academic counselor to develop an academic plan for course enrollment. The counselors are the students’ guides for help in selecting the right classes for their major.

Aldrich Park
Aldrich Park, named for UCI’s founding chancellor, Daniel G. Aldrich Jr. is a lush circular 19 acre park in the heart of the campus. It features connecting footpaths, rolling hillocks and shady trees, and serves as a tranquil place to study or just enjoy the setting.

Peter the Anteater

Anteater
UCI’s official mascot selected in 1965 by student election and inspired by Johnny Hart’s comic strip, B.C. UCI’s anteater mascot is named Peter.

Anteater Chronicles: The UC Irvine Story
Online history of the campus. Part of the UCI Historical Records Project. A service of the University Archives in the UCI Libraries.

ARC
Anteater Recreation Center. The facility is located off of California Ave. Amenities include an indoor track, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, climbing wall, the largest weight room on the UCI campus and more. The ARC also offers intramural sports and a variety of physical fitness classes.

ASUCI
Associated Students of University of California, Irvine. The student government representation for the general student body.

The Hill – UCI bookstore & more
The place to get all course books, supplies, and UCI-branded paraphernalia. Located in the UCI Student Center between Ring Mall and Pereira Dr. next to Aldrich Hall.

Central Cashier
The Central Cashier is located in 228 Aldrich Hall and handles all fees, lab payments and tuition payments. Checks should be made payable to UC Regents.

EEE
The Electronic Educational Environment (EEE) offers a variety of tools to enhance learning and manage course administration. Tools include course mailing lists, course Web sites, online NoteBoards, class DropBoxes, a GradeBook and much more.

FAFSA
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the basic financial aid application.

General Catalogue
The UCI General Catalogue is the most important book to successfully complete schooling at UCI. Published annually, it is the document of record containing the listing of courses that is needed to graduate, including breadth (General Education) and major courses (courses for the completion of a specific major). The General Catalogue also contains course descriptions and overall policies of the university pertaining to students.

Greek Life
The Greek community was created at UCI in 1973 with three fraternities and three sororities opening membership to students. Today, UCI hosts nearly 50 fraternities and sororities and has a very large multicultural Greek population. Greek Life at UCI works with students to create an inclusive environment that challenges members to develop into leaders who uphold the values, oaths, and commitments of their collegiate fraternal organization.

The Hill – UCI bookstore & more
The place to get all course books, supplies, and UCI-branded paraphernalia. Located in the UCI Student Center between Ring Mall and Pereira Dr. next to Aldrich Hall.

ID Card
Your personal university photo identification card. Allows access to sporting events, the ARC and dining halls. Can be encoded to use in the University Pass (U-Pass) program for access to the Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA) extensive bus system.

International Student Orientation (ISO)
ISO provides participants with a comprehensive orientation to UCI that has been specifically tailored to the needs to international students who are new to the U.S. ISO includes an academic advising review session as well as an opportunity to meet with the international student liaison in the school of your major. Campus tours, social activities, information on getting around Irvine and meeting current and new UCI students are also a part of ISO. ISO is a program for freshmen international students only. There is no parent/guardian component to ISO.

KUCI
KUCI, at 88.9FM and kuci.org, is UCI’s very own FM radio station broadcasting underground music and talk since 1969.

Mesa Court
One of the two freshmen residential communities, located at the intersection of Campus Dr. and West Peltason Dr.

Middle Earth
One of two freshmen residential communities themed on J.R.R. Tolkien’sThe Lord of the Rings trilogy. Located on East Peltason Dr. on the edge of the main campus.

New Student Programs
New Student Programs (NSP) hosts several orientation programs prior to the start of each academic year. The aim of these programs is to help new students make their transition into UCI by familiarizing them with the UCI campus and its resources, developing skills necessary to make the adjustment to campus life and the UCI community, increasing their confidence in their abilities to succeed at UCI, and instilling a positive outlook on their future as a student.

New University, NewU
The New University, known as NewU, is UCI’s newspaper published every Monday morning during the academic year.

Orientation Programs

Parents eNews
Used to inform parents and family of special events on campus, important notices and special interest stories. To be included on the list, simply subscribe through this website; individuals may unsubscribe at any time.

Pereira Dr.
The main access road of the main campus which services the Administration Building, UCI Student Center Parking Structure (SCPS), as well as Social Science Parking Structure. Named for William L. Pereira, Master Architect for the UC Irvine campus and the City of Irvine.

Peter
The first name of UCI’s mascot, Peter the Anteater.

Placement Tests
Placement tests are given in a variety of subjects to place students in the most appropriate class. Students may also “test out” of certain classes.

Registrar
The University Registrar’s office handles all individual and course registration information.

Ring Mall
Ring Mall, or the Ring as it’s usually called, is one of the defining features of the campus. It circles the campus and connects many of the primary buildings around Aldrich Park. The Ring is one mile in circumference. The inner ring refers to the pathway around the inside edge of Aldrich Park.

Schedule of Classes
The Schedule of Classes is an online listing of available classes for the upcoming quarter including dates, times, and locations to help students plan and register for the next academic quarter.

SPOP
The Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) is offered many times each summer in July and August and is mandatory for all freshmen. SPOP offers a comprehensive orientation to UCI. Academic advising, program planning and class registration are part of all the programs for freshmen. Campus tours, social activities, and meeting current and new UCI students are also a part of SPOP.

Student ID Number
Student ID Number is an eight digit number that identifies a student’s academic records.

StudentAccess
The place to update student’s address, view transcript, grades and class enrollments.

Transfer Success
Transfer Success is a half-day orientation that will provide students with information about UCI resources, the opportunity to meet current UCI students and other new transfers, and a chance to ask questions before classes begin.

Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (T-SPOP)
T-SPOP is a 2-day, 1-night orientation program that includes all the elements of Transfer Success, plus social activities and a second day of workshops on a range of helpful topics.

UCInetID
The UCInetID is the individual identification for access to many UCI online services. SNAP, WebFiles, Webmail and NACS Mailbox Services, EEE, WebReg and numerous others require you to use your UCInetID and password to log in.

University Town Center
Retail center located on Campus Dr. across from UCI.

USHIP and GSHIP
The Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Program (USHIP) is health insurance coverage provided to all students at the undergraduate level. More information and opt-out information can be found at the Student Health Center website. GSHIP is the Graduate Students Health Insurance Program.

WebReg
Students enroll in classes through WebReg. Students select their desired classes online utilizing the Schedule of Classes (WebSOC), then log in to WebReg and enter the course code for each class.

ZOT Account Online
ZOT Account Online (Student Billing System) allow students to view the most recent monthly ZOTBill, current account information, and pay their ZOTBill electronically online. Authorization is needed for somone other than the student to make electronic payments to the student’s account.

Zot! Zot! Zot!
The Anteater victory cheer! In the B.C. comic strip, it’s the sound of the anteater snapping out his tongue to strike ants.

ZOTBill
A student’s UCI billing statement, produced monthly by Campus Billing Services for accounts with activity or balances greater than zero. Tuition, lab and other fees (EXCEPT housing and parking) will be posted to the ZOTBill.

ZotPortal
One-stop-shop for almost all things online at UCI. View course schedules, tasks assigned by professors, important announcements and news, view dining menus, check financial aid information, connect to ZOT Account Online, and much more. Encourage your student to set ZotPortal as their homepage to stay up-to-date!
