Saturday, April 9, 6:00pm -10:15pm in the Humanities Gateway (HG) 1030 and Humanities Instructional Building (HIB) 100
This Saturday as part of the Vietnamese International Film Festival, the UC Irvine Libraries Southeast Asian Archive, along with the Vietnamese American Community Ambassadors (VACA), will co-present the Spotlight Night Award for the film Mother Fish (Austrialia, 2009) directed, written, and produced by Khoa Do.
Khoa Do will be at the screening of Mother Fish to receive the award and answer questions . The inspiring story of four refugees fleeing Vietnam in 1980, Mother Fish goes inside the mind of one of the survivors. The present melds with the past as a quiet factory worker relives the extraordinary journey when she and her sister took to the sea in a creaky river boat in search of a better life. The film is in English. More information about the film may be found at http://www.vietfilmfest.com/2011/viff/mother-fish/.
A wine reception will precede the film in Humanities Gateway (HG) 1030. During the reception, the Southeast Asian Archive will exhibit materials from their collections. All proceeds from the reception will benefit the Archive.
Purchase tickets at http://www.vietfilmfest.com. Prices are $13 for the wine reception and screening, or $8 for the screening only.
