Hello All,
This post is about my experience travelling to Luxembourg, Luxembourg. Most people outside of the EU probably do not know where the country is located at. It a a very small city/country that is west of Germany, South of Belgium, and east of France. The reason I traveled to Luxembourg is because one of my friends at the University of Birmingham was from there and he always told me that I should visit and by this time I just came back from Ukraine and said why not do another trip and Luxembourg was my final trip in Europe before I went back to the USA.
So I went not knowing much about the country or even the location to be honest but I found a convenient cheap Ryan Air flight again for 30 Quid. When I first arrived there I was greeted by my friend and his parents who were very welcoming to me. I had heard things from other Europeans that would say people from Luxembourg were rich which I did not really understand if it was just some type of joke. After seeing the amazing buildings and the prices for everything there I am like wow this is a really wealthy country. Apparently a lot of financial firms are there and a lot of people stash money in Luxembourg as a safe haven.

Luxembourg is one of those hidden beauty countries that you rarely hear about but when you go and see it in person it is breathtaking. All of the buildings are a couple hundred years old and protrudes off this medieval look. The topography of the city has a lot of cliffs and old passage ways to cut through the city. I visited some Castles in the city and met my friend’s friends. There is a UN building there also in Luxembourg and it is large.

Meeting my friend’s friends they were so excited to meet an American it was amusing. I learned that almost everybody I met there were Finnish which was my first time meeting one. Also their national language is French which I do not know any of. They drove me around all weekend in Luxembourg and we chatted and just hanged out. There is not much to do in this city but we did go out to bars and played football (soccer). We played football for a few hours and I remember at this park different people would come to us and play against us. I am terrible at football and I would just punt the ball over the fence trying to score in the goal haha. One group of people my age came up to us and challenged us to a match they were having banquet in a building next to the park and they had their football uniforms on and I was thinking to myself like we are going to get whooped. Come to find out they were like some professional football players and we lost terribly. They also would try to talk to me assuming I knew French then when I would say something to my friends they realized that I was American but they could not speak English so my friends would have to go back and forth between us to translate. We also played this one football game in a Rugby field to where we would have to kick the ball in between the goal post which stands about 20 feet above the ground. As we would successfully kick it in between we would have to move back 10 yards for each attempt and you would have 3 attempts to make the kick or you would be out.
After we went drinking we stayed out so late that we had to walk back to my friends house which was like a 2 mile walk. I do not know why we walked that distance to his house but we did and my feet were burning by the end of that night. Also to get to his house we had to cut through this large nature reserve which was dark and sketchy with people just laying in the park late at night and I was saying prayers while walking hoping nobody would jump out at us. We eventually made it back and I crashed for the night. I enjoyed Luxembourg a lot I feel like it would be a very nice place to retire in to just relax and if you want to go to three other countries in a day trip you can easily just like crossing State lines in America.
