Create an initial one-page layout of your manifesto on Illustrator, using the techniques you have learned throughout the class. This is a preliminary layout to work towards your final manifesto project. You are allowed to use one image – if you use an image it must follow the guidelines below.

Goals of this project:

• create a layout that reflects the content of the manifesto.
• Edit your manifesto to clarify the content and to adjust it to a layout on a page. This edit should not sacrifice the content of the written words, but should expand meaning from it to the visual.
• Build on and expand the formal design strategies that have been presented in previous projects and discussed in class. Use the strategies that best fit your project to create your layout and/or improvise with new strategies that fulfill your manifesto’s goals more successfully.
• think through the use of text from a formal point of view with a consideration of size, font, color, and layout on the page with text and textblocks acting as shapes and lines within the negative space of the page.
• think through the use of non-text formal elements introduced and acting in conjunction with the text layout

Constraints:

• You are limited to the three colors that you created in the color key in project 7
• You are limited to only two fonts
• Images: If you use an image, you must change it in some way to make it equivalent or less equivalent in dominance to the other elements you use (text, color, shapes, lines, etc). The image must be altered to fit within the pre-established color key. Images can carry strong semiotic connotations, so be careful with how you use them. Think through the presentation on semiotics to make sure you use the image for a specific use and not to fill in space. If your image is created by somebody else, you can only legally use an appropriated  image for artistic reasons if the content of the image is changed in some significant way. You do not have to use an image. If you want to use more than one image, it must be approved.

Come to class with a printout of your single page layout and post on the website with a jpg limited to 1MB.
