Are you an engineer, a humanist, or a little of both? Please make reference to the assigned reading, as well as to another text of your choice.
While the middle ground could be the basis for an exemplary response, it might be more compelling to choose one extreme or the other. Augmenting your response with reference to another text provides you with the opportunity to both strengthen your argument and demonstrate your level of engagement. And as always: be clear, concise, coherent, and creative. Remember that all Writings sbould be about 250 words (one-half page, single spaced).
Writing 1 is due at 11:55PM on Thursday, January 9.
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 11:55AM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 10.
Going back to the first writing assignment, I remembered answering myself being more of an engineer (as an engineer major). Throughout the course I began to understand the humanist side and became more wary of the consequences of pushing forward with technology. Growing up in a time where there are new technology innovations almost every half year, I can’t help but wish to be a part of the change in technology for the better. However, I’m starting to think as a humanist for the sake of the natural and social world.
I actually described myself as an engineer as well, but I too feel that after taking this course I feel more similar to a humanist. Technology is changing so rapidly and becoming so much more invasive. I feel like at some point we need to stop and examine how technology is impacting our lives from a positive and negative perspective. As we advance technologically, I feel that we need to establish more parameters and guidelines that help us avoid making rash and devastating choices.
I Just saw this today, and thought as the class comes to an end, it would be a cool to share Adam Savage’s Keynote at SXSW that touches on both art and technology.

Hi Professor & classmates,
As I was uploading the file to EEE Dropbox my name was added to the front of the file. Does anyone know how to bypass this or rename it so that the name comes out correctly?
Ex.
I named the file yet when I uploaded it the file name changed to
Hi Hannah,
Sorry about this. I didn’t know that this was an automated EEE feature. I’ll adjust the instructions this week.

Hello Professor,
I was wondering if you are going to post up all of the items you wanted us to have at the top of our page.
Thanks!
Marissa
Hi Marisa,
Please see Andrew Wang’s link below. It’s all on the main Writings page.

Hi Professor,
According to the website, it says that the writing assignment is due on Jan 9; however, the dropbox states that it is now due on Jan 10. Did you extended the deadline for this assignment?
Indeed! Extended until Friday at noon, this one time only.
Hi Professor,
For the writing assignment, do you have certain requirements like format, font, size and double space?
There is a format! I forget what it is though and can’t seem to find it on the website!
I found it!

thanks for the link! but is there a specification for double space or single space or no?
Not really. Single is fine, to keep it on one page.
nevermind! dumb question. hahah.
When we turn in our writing assignment in the drop box, do you want us to name it something particular or include our full name in the title?
Hi Alix,
I’ll go over some details about this on Thursday. Please hold off on submitting for now.

Hi Professor,
I know you went over this in class but where on your website can I find the detailed guidelines for formatting that you went over in class today? I know when you went over it, it was posted on the website somewhere but I can’t seem to find it?
Hi Dina,
I’m assuming you found it by now but:

Do movies and/or videos count as other texts that we can use?
Hi David,
Yes, in general they do. The key is to “make reference” to them in a way that is productive to your argument.
