Hi everyone! My name is Zaida Bartolo (pronounced any way that is easier to you: Cy-dah or Zy-duh). I’m from Inglewood (Los Angeles), CA and my parents are from Jalisco, Mexico. I am a 4th year Art major, Digital Arts minor. In my experience, I have worked two-dimensionally by drawing or using Adobe Photoshop, but I thought it would be fun to learn to use a 3D modeling program in order to become comfortable thinking three-dimensionally. One interesting fact about myself is that I like to embroider in my spare time.
Hi all, my name Tony Hsiao, I am a senior majoring in Art, minor in Digital Arts. I am in the process of applying to several grad programs next fall, and is currently prepping my applications/portfolio, it is a long and arduous process, but a goal worth chasing.
I was originally a Computer Science major, but then I realized CS was just not for me (at least at the time), and choose what I am good at. Although I feel that technology and computer science will continue to run parallel in what I do- so learning new tech skills and software is still an ongoing goal. I am proficient in Autodesk Maya and 3ds max, as well as Adobe CC apps.
I have done some models prepping for 3d printing and is continuing to learn the ins-and-outs of the printing process, and will definitely use this knowledge in academia, and at work.
Hello! My name is Rachel Lee, and I am a UC Irvine student studying art and biology. My dream is to work in the videogame industry as an artist someday. I have experience in both 2D and 3D art, but I am definitely still a beginner in the realm of 3D. I’ve done traditional drawings on paper, digital art in programs like Photoshop, and some 2D animation with programs like Clip Studio Paint. I’ve also helped make the art and animation for a few student-made videogames during my time at UCI.
I’ve only started learning 3D within the past year or so and have dabbled in softwares like ZBrush and Autodesk Maya. Rhino (the software we will be using in the workshop) is really new to me. I am very glad to have this opportunity to teach 3D modeling and printing to other people because I enjoy sharing knowledge about the things I love!
Hi, I am Qianyu Zhou (Karen), and I’m a third year Art major and Digital Arts minor student. I usually do painting, digital drawing, and graphic design. I have some experience in Adobe Suites such as Photoshop and Illustrator. I never use Rhino before I took the class, but I’m excited to learn 3D design software. And so far, I have made some interesting models and have printed my first object- the rubber duck. I think combining 3D design with 2D graphic design will make my artworks more interesting. Also, teaching high school students will also be a great opportunity for me to communicate with students and get a teaching experience.
Hello! My name is Justine Benavidez, I’m a 4th year Art major and Digital Arts minor, and I’m originally from San Diego. My main form of art is drawing, both traditionally and digitally (I use Paint Tool Sai for digital works). However, I’ve been experimenting with other artforms throughout my years in college including sculpture, various programs on the Adobe Creative Cloud, film making, sound mixing, and, recently, 3D modeling and printing.
Outside of class I play in a taiko (Japanese drumming) group, play games on the Nintendo Switch, and bake desserts at UCI’s catering service.
My name is Danny Ali; this is my third year at UCI and I went to Claremont High School. I study Anthropology and Digital Media Art. My interests include making music, photography, and video. I have been learning Rhino for the past couple of weeks and it’s very useful. For another class I was building my own instrument similar to a guitar, and before starting it I modeled it using Rhino which was the first thing I printed out. I soon will be designing bracelets and rings for my friends.
My Name is Becky Marquez Thompson. I am a 5th Year college student. I am 22 years old. I studied Psychology for my undergrad at UCI. I am finishing my last year and extremely excited to know how to 3D print.
I am a beginner printer and I really admire the craft of 3D printing. The first thing I ever printed was a heart-shaped object. It came out strong and sturdy, and I love it. I was thinking about painting it red and using it as a keychain.
I have thought about the ways I could create ART using 3D printing. Perhaps I could create objects to use at material for my art projects. For example, I could make 3D finger rings or bracelets.
Hey y’all! My name is Ali Al-Hakeem and I’m a 3rd year Business Administration and Public Health Sciences double major at the University of California, Irvine. I was raised in Irvine, California (so I haven’t traveled very far from home) and I went to University High School (which is also a 5 minute walk from UCI). I come from a very technical family, being that my father is a physician, my brother is a researcher, and my uncles are engineers, so I have had my fair share of science. Now you’re probably wondering how I ended up taking a course in 3D modeling/printing. Well, my education professor recommended this course for me, since I am interested in teaching, and I thought that it would be super cool to learn 3D software and to actually make something tangible. So here I am! Hello! I have a couple of years of experience with ceramics, specifically hand-built objects, so this is my first art course that utilizes software.
Hi everyone! My name is Sally Wu. I’m a 4th-year Business Economics major and Digital Arts minor at UCI. I was a math major and had some experience in teaching math. I love mentoring students because I feel accomplished when I get my mentees to critically solve hard problems and build bonds with each other. In the meantime, I am also interested in making 3D art. Hopefully, by learning some intermediate modeling and imaging through Rhino and 3D printing, I could apply them in my future career in digital fields. One fun fact about me is that I love dancing and playing badminton in my spare time.
