Dear ADFS members, We had a delightful kick-off social last week. Thanks to everyone who came and all those who indicated they could not attend but look forward to being involved in the new year.
Here’s a quick recap:
- 50+ staff and faculty have joined ADFS!
- ~20 folks attended our first social
- some reasons we shared for wanting to join ADFS:
- we have disabilities, and we care about people who have disabilities
- we want community at UCI
- we want to advocate for change at UCI
- some things we might want to do together:
- conduct an annual “state of disability inclusion” survey for UCI faculty and staff
- advocate for a Disability Studies minor at UCI
- support the UC Access Now student movement, respond to their Demandifesto
- host a social event with UCI’s various student disability groups
- coordinate an anonymized collection of disabled experiences at UCI (like the inventory of apologies)
- conduct a visioning activity in which we develop a collective vision to guide our strategic next steps as a group
- Other things we shared:
- Delicious vegan and gluten-free kit-kats (thanks Somphone!)
- Gorgeous snowflake cookies, with cutters from etsy (thanks Meredith!)
We invite you to share what you’d like to do together (edit slide 8) through ADFS, and please add your name if you are open to volunteering. We’ll be in touch.
We plan to host a quarterly social, so stay tuned for our Winter social date. Wishing everyone a warm, happy, healthy holiday season and new year!
