Mesa Court Mural
The Mesa Court Mural, in the Mesa Court Mailroom, was created by students in the Advanced Drawing class in Winter quarter 2017. The students researched Mesa Court history through interviewing past and current staff members and students, reviewing UCI Library Archive materials, touring the residential facilities and grounds and doing a student survey. The mural is their visual interpretation of the information that they gathered about Mesa Court’s history, facilities, staff and community life.
The class was designed to give students real life experience in being commissioned to create a public work of art for Mesa Court. The mural project was a joint project between Student and Academic Affairs. The instructor of the class, Mara Lonner and the Director of Mesa Court, Lou Gill, worked collaboratively to create the class, fund the project and allow the students to have a learning environment that simulated a real life artistic experience.
Mesa Court is proud to display this truly unique work of art.
