FAB/ART is a celebration of five recent student-driven projects that illustrate how art and design expression and innovation can be enabled with digital fabrication technology. Two of the featured projects—Collective Chess and Cardboard Chairs—were produced by students in sections of Art 95: Special Topics in Basic Media focused on creative applications of computer-aided design and manufacturing. The other three—UCI @ 50, the Tool Room of the Future, and Playful Fabrication—were produced as projects of the Speculative Prototyping Lab, which tackles collaborative creative projects at the intersection of media art and speculative design.
FAB/ART is on view at the Beall Center for Art + Technology in conjunction with RETURN LIVELINESS, an exhibition of student art that explores what lies beneath the surface of technology.
