Dear Art 251,

Great second trip, though cut short for most for various reasons. (More on that later. I’ve looked into the wifi and now have the ISP information.) As always, got buried in emails when we got back!

Zeb and/or I have met with each of you at least once to get a sense for where you’re headed. (Some really cool projects.) There will be time for further meetings, though perhaps not as many as any of us might like. It’s hard to balance the time this course requires. But everything seems to be coming together nicely.

As usual, we will have lots of lists and forms for you — forthcoming, promise! — but wanted to start with one form, a reminder, and a new date.

 

1) What are your December plans?

Fill out this sheet. I’ll add some columns later. For now, I just want to get a sense for when you’re planning to be there.

Remember that the work party commitment is Friday to Monday, 12/13/24-12/16/24. The site is booked 12/6/24-12/20/24 for those of you who want to pursue further research/creation. This is the information I’m trying to capture.

Zeb and I will be sorting out work party projects and time slots on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

 

2) Hybrid Meeting: Thursday, 12/5/24, 7:00-8:30PM in CAC 1021 OR @ https://uci.zoom.us/j/2771603316

We’ve decided to make this one hybrid because we’d love to see you in person if possible. Don’t make Zeb and I hang out all sad and alone in CAC 1021.

We’ll sort out some of the final logistics at this meeting, e.g. food and work party assignments.

 

3) Spring Showcase: Saturday, 4/12/25

We had previously discussed having this during the break between quarters but for various reasons this no longer works. Other constraints have narrowed this down to the Saturday of Spring Week 2: 4/12/25. One huge upside of this date is it should work better for the audience. End of Winter or the break was going to really restrict our potential audience.

We know this isn’t going to work for everyone, though we hope it does. We’ll find a way to include everyone’s work even if you can’t attend.

Saturday is just the anchor, there can be satellite activity the whole weekend.

Also: what do we want to call this? I’m not loving “showcase.”
