The First-Generation Becoming an Earth & Environmental Scientist program (First-Gen BEES) is a multi-day workshop (virtual in 2021; in person every spring and fall afterward) designed to teach some of the unwritten rules about college, graduate school, and “Becoming an Earth and Environmental Scientist”.
First-Gen BEES was developed and produced by Dr. Patrick A. Rafter and Dr. Katherine R. M. Mackey, both part of UCI’s Department of Earth System Science. The program is being directed by Dr. Francois W. Primeau and Dr. Patrick A. Rafter from 2025 to present.
The one-day events are shaped around having an informative about Earth Science, becoming a scientist, careers in Earth Science (both academic and private), and more.
