A Horror Musical Full of Destruction
When Stephen King’s classic novel Carrie was turned into a rock infused musical in the 1980’s it was as destructive to Broadway as Carrie is to her school’s gym. More than 20 years later, this killer musical made a triumphant return to the stage after being heavily reworked. This Off-Broadway run made this musical a cult classic that musical and horror fans will have a bloody good time watching this Halloween season.
Following the life of the telekinetic teen, Carrie brings to life the discovery of Carrie’s powers and the havoc she wreaks when pushed too far. The image of Carrie in her blood stained prom dress has undoubtedly become an icon of horror in pop culture and will now be brought to life at the Maverick Theater in Fullerton, California. The Maverick Theater is a small black box theater that has incredible transformability. The Maverick is also known for producing very unique, inventive shows. Their seasons are known to include zany, horror musicals that cult fans flock to every year.
Audience members can expect a one of a kind immersive experience when they come to see Carrie at The Maverick. Not only will audience members be surrounded by the band and actors, they will be fully immersed in the Carrie experience. Upon arrival, audience members will be promoted to pick a group assignment at random. These groups will correspond with a specific area of the playing area to sit in. Each group will be its own clique helping to create the toxic, bully-filled high school that Carrie is tormented in. Audience members will be encouraged to participate in select parts of the show and will be able to see firsthand how their involvement in Carrie’s torture will lead to consequences later on down the road.
Audience members should be aware that there will be “splash zones” in each seating group and will have the option to be provided with shoe booties and ponchos should they choose to sit in this zone.
