Overview

The group, formed in the mid 2000’s, was established as a necessary level of support  to those graduate and professional students of across the educational spectrum on the UC Irvine campus, who found themselves facing challenges relating to their ability to navigate the Irvine environment.  Many of us have come here and have looked for others like us. The BGSN was designed to provide a sense of purpose for those African American students here on the Irvine Campus. The goal was to create a space that would be visible, supportive, nurturing and productive in serving the needs of Black graduate  and professional students. It is to serve as a central point of information exchange to the Black community. As an organization looking out for the best interest of its membership, it strives to provide a sense of purpose and serve as a model to other organizations.
