Hello Anteaters! Welcome to BISA!
According to the research done by UC Irvine Office of Institutional Research, it is evident that recently, more and more high-school graduates consider UCI as their first choice. Among these graduates, a significant amount of them is actually from oversea. From the research by UCI Student Life and Leadership, UCI has “over 3,000 international students and scholars and about 500 international spouses and children, representing about 80 countries.” “The top three countries represented at UCI are China, South Korea, and India.” However, hardly does a school organization exist here at UCI to unify all the Bio Sci international students. Further, as newcomers, it is already difficult enough for international students to fit themselves into a new culture, let alone to ask them to succeed academically or even professionally. It is also due to the fact that not much resources and opportunities are accessible for them to take advantage of. Thus, we are eager to create an organization, majorly serving for BioSci International students, reuniting, and assisting them to succeed in their lives.
BISA, which is BioSci International Student Association in full title, is a new club among plenty of academic/honor organizations at UCI. In order to unite increasing biosci international students and help them reach achievements on academic and networking, we are here to provide and introduce various kind of resources on campus, hold different themes of workshops, colorful volunteering /community service activities, and keynote speech by guest speakers.
Furthurmore, we welcome domestic students non-biosci major students to join us, building connections between bio & other domains and sharing opportunities & ideas. We hope to see you on our general meetings! BISA prepared a lot of tasty food!
