HTTPS/SSL Update

We will be adding HTTPS (via SSL certificates) to UCI Sites as a rolling upgrade. Starting October 23, 2018 we will begin enabling SSL as the default on sites within the sites.uci.edu domain.

What is SSL?

SSL is a standard security protocol for establishing encrypted links between a web server and a browser. The usage of SSL ensures all data transmitted remains encrypted. The internal upgrades will improve security for your visitors to the UCI Sites website platform. An additional benefit is increased Google rankings for https sites as Google encourages a “more secure web”.

What do you need to do?

You don’t need to do much. You should notice that your website uses https as the default in the coming weeks. If someone still is using http in your URL, it will change to https. Going forward, you can use https when sharing your website’s URL.

Questions or Concerns?

If you have any questions, concerns or notice anything odd, please reach out to the OIT Help Desk (oit@uci.edu). They will route your issue to the UCI Sites support team.
