Class Offerings
Ballet Technique with Critical Perspective for Disabled / Non-disabled Bodies (Movement Workshop)
Guided by disability justice and critical pedagogy, various tools such as the use of nontraditional music, alternative language, and non-ballet/somatic movement concepts provide new pathways through the structure of a classical ballet class while challenging the exclusionary nature of ballet in Western culture.
Improvisation and/as Composition for Disabled / Non-disabled Bodies (Movement Workshop)
An interrogation of personal movement habits in an ensemble environment which utilizes movement invention prompts, ensemble collaboration, the repurposing of movement, and improvisation as choreography to challenge our quickness to judge when exploring use of movement invention, space, and partnering. Designed for both virtual and in-person spaces, improvisational scores explore the potential for ensemble movement, partnering, and the creation of improvised group compositions which are inclusive of all bodies regardless of experience and dis/ability.
Practice, Aesthetics, and Equity in Western Concert Dance Culture (Discussion)
In an attempt to facilitate a less hierarchical discussion format, participants are invited to bring their unique experiences and guide an exploration of the relationship between various marginalized communities and concrete considerations for pushing toward greater equity in Western dance culture.
Contemporary Modern Technique for Disabled / Non-disabled Bodies (Movement Workshop)
An athletic blend of release-based technique, floor work, and Bartenieff Fundamentals encouraging a grounded, intentional use of breath, body weight, and anatomy as well as a heightened sense of personal ownership and willingness to take risks as a form of experiential laboratory learning.
