Ushering Information:

Thank you for volunteering your time to usher for Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Ushers play a vital role in the performance experience for audience members. As an usher, you are one of the first friendly faces the audience meets and you represent the Claire Trevor School of the Arts
To help familiarize you with the show, we would like to invite you and your guest to the Invited Dress Rehearsal of the performance you are ushering. The Invited Dress Rehearsal will help to anticipate when the Intermission is as well as give you the opportunity to see the show, as your responsibilities as an usher may require you to miss parts of the performance. Please see the Production Calendar for the Invited Dress rehearsal date. This invitation is non-transferable. If you intend on attending the Invited Dress Rehearsal, please contact the Stage Manager of your production. Thank you.

DRESS CODE

The dress code is professional for all Claire Trevor School of the Arts events. This means black dress pants, white dress shirt/blouse and black dress shoes. No jeans, T-shirts or open-toed shoes are permitted and your attire should be something you are comfortable in for the duration of your call (you may be standing for several hours). You will forfeit your place as an usher if you are not dressed appropriately. All House Managers have been told to enforce dress code standards at all shows and performances.

  2. No photography or recording equipment of any kind is permitted (unless otherwise directed by the House Manager). If you see a camera or a video recorder, please inform the patron of the policy. If the behavior persists, inform the House Manager who will confiscate the recording device until the show’s conclusion.

Any situation that you do not feel comfortable dealing with should be reported immediately to the House Manager.

EMERGENCIES

  1. If at any time you should hear the fire alarm sound, you are to immediately open all exit doors inside and out of the theatre and assist in directing the patrons out of and away from the building. When the house is empty, close the doors and leave the building. At that point, you will contact the House Manager for further instructions.
  2. If we should experience a power outage and have to evacuate the building, use available flashlights to assist patrons out of the theatre. DO NOT BEGIN ANY EVACUATION UNTIL AN ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE TO DO SO.
  3. If you should see, at any time, the House Manager or Stage Manager walk onto the stage and stop a performance for the purpose of evacuation, immediately open the doors for the patrons. Remain calm and assist the patrons in exiting the building.
  4. It is your responsibility to remain calm and collected in the event of an emergency. The safety of the patrons depends upon your ability to safely direct traffic out of the building.
