The first phase of CALWAFS is surveying residents of the cities of Corona and Lake Elsinore (see map below) who live near wildland areas. The study will be expanded to other areas of Riverside, Orange, and San Bernardino counties in the coming months. Resident awareness of environmental hazards will be compared to model estimates of at-risk areas to help government officials, emergency responders, community organizations and residents better understand environmental hazards in southern California, improve disaster preparedness, and strengthen community resilience.
