Our New Curator for the Southeast Asian Archive

C-CAP TEACH is delighted to announce that Julia Huỳnh has started the position of Curator for the Southeast Asian Archive and Research Librarian for Asian American Studies in Special Collections & Archives.

Julia Huỳnh joins us most recently from New Wave Documentary, where she has been an archival researcher. Her experience is diverse and complementary to the SEAA, including positions as a digital asset management specialist, project archivist, digital media consultant, and research fellow. Of note are her experiences as a fellow with the SEAA in 2019 as well as an internship with the Southeast Asian Digital Archive (SEADA) at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Julia is an archivist, community leader, and multimedia artist with an MA in photography preservation and collections management from Toronto Metropolitan University and an honors BA in art and art history from the University of Toronto. She also has a beginner’s certificate in Vietnamese language from an affiliated program of the University of Toronto. She co-founded Empowered Phụ Nữ, an arts-based collective of Vietnamese Canadian women empowering women through photography and storytelling, as well as SEAQueens Collective, a group of Southeast Asian-identifying creatives, storytellers, and leaders facilitating community through zinemaking. She is an experienced exhibition curator, Photovoice consultant, and oral historian.

With so much wonderful experience, we know Julia will be an asset to the C-CAP TEACH team as well as the SCA Department. She is going to accomplish great things, and we cannot wait to see her flourish in her new role with us!
